National City Train Depot

The National City Train Depot is an Italianate design building that stands as the oldest railway-related structure in San Diego County (built in 1882). It is a museum home to The San Diego Electric Railway Association and possibly a female ghost. Once a station on the California Southern Railway, it now showcases old trolley cars, railroad memorabilia, and a sizable indoor model train layout. Dave Slatter is a museum curator and member of the association. The National City Depot (922 W 23rd St. National City, CA 91950) is the oldest western railroad station in California Southern, and it was featured in Ken Kramer’s show about San Diego during Season 1, with an air date of 1/11/11.

Additionally, Dave Slatter has reported witnessing the ghost spirit of a young lady in her mid-20s standing in the upstairs window of the National City Depot, facing north. She appeared to be dressed in a grey dress with a white apron bib, a style popular in the 1880s-1890s. Despite her silence, she made quite an impression before turning around and disappearing. Notably, Dave claims to have seen her ghost spirit on multiple occasions.
